About

InFUNity Math is a free math tutoring program for elementary and middle school students in underserved areas. Classes are held via Zoom every Saturday morning.

My Story

My name is Diya Kannan, and I'm a junior at Naperville Central High School. I have always had an avid interest in mathematics, ever since I was introduced to the Fibonacci sequence at age 6. I was amazed by all the patterns I could draw, by how the “golden ratio” derived from the Fibonacci sequence is actually present in nature (flowers, trees, hurricanes, shells, even faces). I fell in love with the patterns of mathematics a long time ago, and I hope to teach kids that math isn’t scary or dry, but a beautiful subject full of amazing phenomena.

I know that a lot of kids shy away from math, viewing it as tough because they had a lack of success with math concepts from a young age. Math is so applicable to the real world, and having a strong foundation in math really can help set one up for success.

Tutoring kids in math is something that I’ve always wanted to do, so I thought about joining one of the tutoring programs in my own community. However, the plethora of tutoring services and academic help available in Naperville was astounding, and I didn’t believe that I would be able to make the greatest possible impact as a tutor in Naperville. I really want to make a difference and build the confidence of elementary school students in math, and so I have created InFUNity Math to aid students in areas which don't have such an abundance of math help readily available.

Hands Raised

Vision

With InFUNity Math, elementary school students will have a stronger understanding of elementary math concepts, further build their confidence and fuel their passion for mathematics, and be set up for success in their future, for free. By helping students in underserved areas, this program can really make a difference and provide free education to those that might never receive it otherwise.

We are currently working with over 100 students in seven US states and five countries around the world.
